Working the Night Shift at Bacon Campus

Many of us never get the chance to meet the Hilltop employees who work the night shift at our 24-hour programs. While we are fast asleep, they are hard at work. These night owls embrace the quiet and solitude as they provide care for Hilltop’s clients and keep the facilities running. Their schedules often prevent them from attending Hilltop’s employee gatherings so we spent an evening photographing their world. This look into the night shift at Bacon Campus is the first of a two part series.

Sara Davison

RYS Behavioral Support Staff

Sara has been with Hilltop for nine years working both day and evening shifts. She likes the night shift because it gives her more time for activities with the youth and allows her to be a consistent presence in their care.

James Lee

RYS Overnight Team Lead

James prefers the quiet and slower pace of working at night. He sometimes finds it difficult to balance his social life with his work schedule, but he enjoys his hardworking crew that fills the nights with laughter and camaraderie.

Kathryn Miller

RYS Behavioral Support Specialist

After 19 years with Hilltop, Kathryn continues to find satisfaction in working with the kids and setting up the day staff to do what they do best. Working the night shift allows Kathryn to volunteer at her daughter’s school during the day and to play in two community bands.

Josh Campbell

RYS Behavioral Support Staff

Josh loves working as part of an amazing team that gives the youth someone to listen and the support they need. Working nights also leaves him time during the day to do the things he loves, like hiking, biking, and spending time on the river.

Mario Morales

Hilltop Environmental Services Aide

Mario finds the quiet of the night shift lets him focus on the work. At first he had a hard time adjusting, but music and lots of coffee helps. He says working nights can be a little crazy, like the time a client called the police on him because the cafeteria doors were locked.

Kurstan Gallegos

LAP Care Giver

Terri Phinnell

LAP Resident Care – Med Tech

Both Terri and Kurstan love being social and spending time with the LAP residents. They can’t believe that something so fun is actually a part of their job. Terri is a single mom and working nights lets her get her son off to school. Kurstan prefers not having to get up early and thinks the night shift is healthier for her.

Anne Lloyd

LAP Resident Support Specialist

Anne has a hard time sleeping at night, so the schedule is perfect for her body. Every night is different and she looks forward to each shift. She recalls an incident involving a resident locking himself in the media room in a comedy of errors that took several staff members to remedy.
