On October 20, 2018, Hilltop Residential Youth Services staff and youth participated in a fundraiser at Steadfast Steeds, an Equine Sanctuary, in Glade Park, Colorado. This Hobby Stick-Horse Derby was put on to raise money to finish the 15 acre path ring, feeding stations and mineral stations that will provide year-round healthy living for the many wild horses that come through the sanctuary. The youth of RYS have been working on building this ring and preparing the land for these stations and were eager to participate in this fund raising derby. Each team took part in a pole bending competition, egg relay and barrel racing while riding their stick horses. There was lots of laughter and fun to be had during the afternoon’s festivities. The RYS team was pleased to win two second place ribbons. They were also presented with a Best in Show ribbon for their efforts in building the rock path.
Steadfast Steeds raised $3,000 of their $7,000 goal during the festivities. The youth and staff of Hilltop were honored to be a part of this fun event and are proud of the incredible work being done at Steadfast Steeds.
