Ian began volunteering at LAP in February 2024 as a resident companion and soon launched a Spanish class for residents. This program fosters inclusivity and connection while allowing Ian to strengthen his own Spanish-language skills. Alicia notes, “Ian demonstrates Hilltop’s values of integrity, growth, and fun. He is punctual, professional, and creates engaging, productive classes.”
A student at CMU, Ian recently completed a biology degree and is pursuing Spanish/Hispanic Studies while preparing for the MCAT. Earlier this month, he began an internship with Hilltop, supporting Health Access and Community Programs through Spanish interpretation and translation, and integrating research into his classes.
In the company of Hilltop LAP residents, leaders and staff and volunteer services staff, Alicia presented Ian with the award. Ian shared, “This means so much to me. It is an honor. I look forward to continued learning, sharing, and growing.”
Mary Mlot, Volunteer Manager, added, “Congratulations, Ian, and thank you for your outstanding contributions to Hilltop and our community.”
