Hilltoppers,
The US census comes around once every ten years and this year’s deadline is September 30th. If you have already completed the form that was mailed, the online questionnaire, or received a visit from a census taker, you are good to go. If you and your family haven’t been counted yet this year, there is still time! It is critical to a lot of our own programs to get an accurate count of our community.
If you are unfamiliar with what the census does and how it affects Hilltop and Western Slope communities, here are just a few highlights:
- The census guides annual allocation of hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funds for Colorado communities for health care, education, infrastructure and vital community programs and services including Medicaid, Head Start, block grants, SNAP, WIC, school lunch and more.
- It determines congressional apportionment, how many representatives the State of Colorado has in the U.S. House of Representatives;
- It provides data that will impact our community for the next decade by showing decision-makers where we need new schools, hospitals, roads and more.
If you still need to fill out your census, go to www.2020census.gov and invest five minutes of your day today to ensure a decade of accurate funding and representation for Colorado.
Together, we got this!
