Pride Month

Happy PRIDE Hilltoppers!

We’d like to join with our local community, state, nation, and global community in recognizing and celebrating the month of June as Pride month for ourselves, our co-workers, family members, friends, residents/participants, and neighbors who consider themselves part of the LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Trans, Queer, etc.) community.  As we forge forward in creating a more inclusive Hilltop, we are taking actions to create and ensure an environment of belonging for ALL.  An environment that respects and accepts all the unique qualities and perspectives each of us bring to Hilltop.

Pride month originated from a few individuals standing up against prejudice, discrimination, and mistreatment based on sexual orientation and gender identity in 1969.  Many advances have taken place since then regarding basic human rights and protections against discrimination.  Even with these advances, we recognize that attitudes, beliefs, laws, institutions, and systems continue to perpetuate exclusion and harm to those in the LGBTQ+ community… and especially to those within this community who are also people of color.  Hilltop recognizes and celebrates that your sexual orientation, gender identity, and all the things that make you who you are also help to make Hilltop a beautiful mosaic!

Let’s come together during the month of June to learn, to grow, and to participate in events that help us develop a mindset of inclusivity and belonging.  Please take time to visit our EDI page on the Hilltop Portal.  You’ll find great educational videos and articles, event information, resources, etc.  There’s also the opportunity to share your thoughts and stories through the comments section.

Inclusivity matters!  Belonging matters!  Happy Pride!
