Hilltoppers,

For today’s update I wanted to look at how Hilltop is doing from an unique perspective. Below is a short interview with Hoyte Williams, a resident at The Commons of Hilltop who shares his thoughts on how COVID-19 is affecting his daily life.

HILLTOP: How do you personally feel about the COVID-19 epidemic?

HOYTE WILLIAMS: It is unprecedented. I don’t think we will ever fully recover from this, and it will be at least 2 years before we see anything resembling normality.

HILLTOP: How has COVID-19 affected your daily life?

HOYTE WILLIAMS: Not a lot has changed. It keeps me from seeing my family and eating meals with other people, but the food quality seems even better.

HILLTOP: How are other residents at The Commons handling COVID-19 precautions?

HOYTE WILLIAMS: Some are really struggling. For a lot of us, being out of our routines is really taking a toll on our mental wellbeing. It’s making us realize our own value here and how important social interaction is.

HILLTOP: How are the staff at The Commons handling COVID-19 precautions?

HOYTE WILLIAMS: Excellent!!! I think the staff here is very dedicated. Everyone is doing their best and a little bit more.

HILLTOP: What types of things are you doing to remain active during the quarantine?

HOYTE WILLIAMS: I continue to participate in activities. I spend a good amount of time doing puzzles in the common areas. I also love my gardening. I have a garden here where I grow veggies, that gets me outside a few times a day for some fresh air and sunshine!

HILLTOP: Do you feel safe living at The Commons?

HOYTE WILLIAMS: Yes, I feel I am better off here than anywhere else.

HILLTOP: What would you like to tell The Commons staff?

HOYTE WILLIAMS: THANK YOU!!! JUST A TREMENDOUS THANKS. I think the staff here is great!!

I can’t thank Hoyte enough for sharing his experiences at The Commons. This is a great reminder of what life is like for our residents, and a positive testament to the impact you all are having on the lives of those we serve. Together, we got this.
