Hilltoppers,

As the science of COVID-19 transmission continues to be studied, we all need to adjust our behaviors and protocols, both at work and at home.  We have known for months the dangerous role that droplets play in transmitting the virus.  Droplets are large particles which fall to the ground in seconds, making wearing masks and/or staying a safe 6-feet away a reliable defense.

Now we are learning about the concern and dangers of aerosols. Aerosols are much smaller respiratory droplets which can remain suspended in the air for hoursOnce the aerosol leaves the mouth, it behaves similarly to smoke.  If not diffused through ventilation, they become increasingly concentrated and greatly increase the risk of infection for those in that space.

Due to these new findings, as well as a significant increase in exposures and positive cases within Hilltop, we must alter our protocols to decrease the chance of transmission, infection and loss of workforce.

Therefore, effective immediately, we are implementing a 100% mask mandate while working for Hilltop.  The exception is if you are alone in a single office.  This protocol includes traveling in vehicles and participating in internal or external community meetings.

Additional recommendations include ventilating closed spaces by opening office doors and decrease long in-person meetings.  Property services is currently altering our heating and cooling systems to increase the fresh air intake creating more circulation.  In addition, when traveling with others in vehicle, set the vents to fresh air and partially open the windows.

In order to understand the need for these new protocols better, please review these two links.

I realize we are all tired of this pandemic, unfortunately it is not letting up.  We need to continue moving forward with our protocols to protect each of you, your families and our clients.  As always, bring any questions and concerns forward to your Ops Manager for clarification.

Together, we got this.
