GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)– Oct. 24 is “Purple Thursday,” and to honor victims and survivors of domestic violence, Hilltop’s Latimer’s House was full of purple.

In fact, the month of October is domestic violence awareness month, but one day in the month is set up for the community to show their support.

The Latimer House serves seventeen nearby towns and just this past year got over three thousand crisis calls. Today, they held an open house to provide resources about their services to help those in need.

“For those who have been affected by domestic violence and sexual assault, it means the world to be able to see that physical representation of people coming together and saying this is not okay. We’re going to stand up, we’re going to speak out against it,” says Hilltop Latimer’s House Paige Cadman.

Officials say one and four women and one and nine men are affected by domestic violence.
