Sterling joined Hilltop through the Karis Inc. transition two years ago, and we are incredibly fortunate to have welcomed him into a leadership role. His depth of institutional knowledge, dedication to serving unhoused young people, and unwavering commitment to the Connections team continue to strengthen the work we do every day. Sterling brings a steady presence to every situation, and his thoughtful, comprehensive approach helps bring Hilltop’s mission to life.

When we reflect on our Mission Statement of “Creating connection to build a community where everyone belongs,” we see that mission reflected in the way Sterling shows up for others. The Connections team often jokes that Sterling is a gentle giant — and among the youth, he is also known as Rooster. Sterling’s ability to build genuine relationships is at the heart of the work we do. He understands the courage it takes for someone to ask for help and approaches every interaction with kindness, respect, and empathy.

Sterling demonstrates our value of Relationship through the trust he builds with young people, coworkers, and community partners. He embraces every opportunity to connect with others and ensures people feel seen, valued, and supported. His commitment to Inclusivity is reflected in the way he treats everyone with kindness and creates space for people to feel welcomed and respected. There is a clear alignment between what Sterling believes, what he says, and the actions he takes. His compassion, consistency, and trademark smile are a true reflection of the spirit of humanity behind our mission.

Sterling also demonstrates Growth and Courage through the way he continues to lead, adapt, and support the work of the Connections team. He recognizes the impact his decisions have on the lives of others and consistently steps forward to serve young people and strengthen our community.
