Monday, January 16th, is a federal holiday recognizing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  We wanted to take a moment to reflect on Dr. King’s achievements, brave actions, and vision that shed light on injustices and pushed some of the most important systemic and institutional changes in the history of the United States.  Below is the, hopefully, familiar video of Dr. King’s most landmark speech which can help us all better understand the civil rights issues and fight that Dr. King so bravely faced.

This day is also an opportunity to understand that these issues are not in our past, but exist now, and that real work still needs to be done to change them.  To truly honor a person’s memory is to take up their vision and bravely act, every day, to make that vision reality.  Through Hilltop’s values, mission, and daily actions, we are determined to do our part in this infinite vision of lifting humanity through equal and fair treatment, access, and opportunity. For those interested, Black Citizens and Friends will be hosting a local memorial march and speech in honor of Dr. King.  The link to this information is found below.
