Hilltop would also like to bring your attention to an important day of celebration this month: National Disability Independence Day, or the anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26, 1990. The creation and passage of this law moved rights of Americans with disabilities from the realm of social welfare to civil rights, and afforded an array of legal protections against discrimination that had never before been recognized in our nation. This Act was an enormous step forward in equity, diversity, and inclusivity for the United States.
